The Carinthian animal protection organization Nanuk has discovered an incredibly cruel animal abuse. A Hungarian family had probably been barbecuing cats for years in the middle of a residential area.
“You can’t put this cruelty into words,” animal rescuer Hans Planinschetz is stunned. Cats were probably grilled alive for a long time in the middle of Bad Bleiberg and then eaten. Startled neighbors had heard cats cry pitifully and smelled the stench of burnt flesh and fur. “The very reclusive family must have killed the young cats in this cruel way. There were a total of seven cats on the property and there were always young cats that disappeared,” said the animal rescuer.
Only two cats survived the horrors. “We were able to get hold of a red and white male, the second cat is still on the run. We set a live trap. The cats are completely traumatized,” reports Planinschetz.
In the meantime, the family moved to Leibnitz
“Why didn’t people sound the alarm sooner? The family has since moved to Styria, to Leibnitz, and sold the house. We have now informed all animal welfare organizations and authorities in Styria,” emphasizes the trained chef. Naturally, a report was made to the police. According to the police, the investigation is ongoing and they also regret that a report was not filed sooner.
