American astronaut Tracy Dyson and her two Russian colleagues Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Tschub returned to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday. The three astronauts landed in the Kazakh steppes around 17:00 local time (13:00 CEST).
Before departure, Kononenko handed over command of the ISS to American Suni Williams. Despite global political tensions, Russia and the US continue to cooperate on the ISS.
Kononenko and Tschub also broke an ISS record on Friday, spending more than 370 days, the longest time in humanity’s outpost. The two cosmonauts arrived there on September 15 last year.
Russians in space for over 1000 days
Kononenko broke another record during his stay in space: since it was his fifth space mission, the 60-year-old has now spent more time in space than anyone else. He was the only person to have spent more than 1,000 days in space.
It was the third flight into space for the American Dyson. For the current mission, she has been in the International Space Station since March – more than 180 days.
