A man fired several shots at the airport in the Australian capital Canberra on Sunday, but no one was injured, authorities said. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. (local time) on Sunday afternoon. Due to the incident, the airport had to be evacuated for several hours and air traffic was halted.
According to the police, the man acted alone. The shots he fired into the departure lounge were not aimed at people.
The man did not go through a security check. His motive is still unclear, he says. Initially, nothing was known about the alleged perpetrator.
The man was initially sitting by the window in the check-in hall, TV channel ABC quoted an investigator as saying. After five minutes, he drew his pistol and fired about five shots.
