Contacts with Russia – “Putor plans”: six arrests in Romania

The Romanian police arrested six people planned for the suspicion of a coup. The suspects would have had different contact persons with “agents of foreign powers”.

According to Romanian media reports, one of the arrested is a 101 -year -old Major General, who repeatedly spread anti -Semitic propaganda in the media. For four of the suspects, the special unit of the Public Prosecution Service (Diicot) has been responsible for organized crimes the detention and for two house arrest.

Plans for takeover and NATO output
The public prosecutor accuses the arrested betrayal and the creation of a criminal group that intends to “harm the sovereignty and independence of the Romanian state since 2023 by the ability of the country to defend it”. Her goal was to lead Romania from NATO, to take over the government power, to introduce a new constitution and to change the name and flag of the country, says the statement. Two of the suspects traveled to Moscow in January this year and had met people who were willing to support the acquisition of the power of this group in Romania.

Connections with presidential candidate?
According to the domestic intelligence service SRI, the suspects have also planned a paramilitary group with the aim of destabilizing the constitutional order in Romania. Members of this group “actively asked for the support of officers from the message of the Russian Federation (in Bucharest)”, says a message from the SRI. Your arrest is related to the expulsion of two Russian diplomats from Romania from Wednesday. The SRI wrote that they would have actively supported the group that was now investigated.

Media see a connection with the Kremlin-friendly ex-presidential candidate Calin Georgescu, against whom the public prosecutor is investigating because of the suspicion of anti-consisting actions.
