Was it a test of courage? – Siberia: Boy injures three classmates with hammer

Date:

At a school in Siberia, a 13-year-old attacked and injured three classmates with a hammer on Monday morning. The boy used the instrument to attack his classmates before being overpowered by a teacher, the Irkutsk region’s education minister said.

The victims received immediate medical attention and their lives were said not to be in danger. Just a week ago, a 13-year-old in Chelyabinsk in the Urals wounded three classmates and a teacher with a hammer.

Was it perhaps an online courage test?
The motives for both attacks were initially unclear. According to reports in the Russian media, the perpetrators in both cases may have taken part in an online test of courage.

The number of attacks on schools is increasing
Until a few years ago, attacks on Russian schools were an absolute rarity, but recently their number has increased. Last December, a 14-year-old girl shot a classmate and then herself at a school in Bryansk.

In September 2022, 18 people were killed in a gun attack on a school in Iyevsk in the center of the country, and in 2021, an attacker killed nine people at a school in Kazan in the Tatarstan region.
