Brief panic – Australia: Unintentional tsunami warning issued

Date:

It was supposed to be a test report to check the systems. But the Australian weather service BOM accidentally sent out a tsunami warning for the east coast.

“The warnings were accidentally leaked to the public as part of testing the tsunami early warning software,” the weather bureau said later. They were immediately removed. “Our bureau acknowledges and apologizes for the confusion caused by this test.”

“Unfortunately” supervision
Queensland Emergency Management Coordinator Shane Chelepy called the oversight “unfortunate” and stressed the alert should never have been sent. “It did indicate it was a test, but not as clearly as it should have been.”

Many users expressed their confusion on social networks. “A brief panic gripped parts of eastern Australia,” wrote the Australian Guardian.
