Many witnesses in the trial of an alleged Hells Angels trio have gaps in their memories. In the grand jury room of the Vienna Regional Court, fear reigns even on the second day of the trial. Only one local employee remains cool with her verdict.
“I can’t say anything about it”, “I don’t know”, “I don’t know anymore”. Sentences that are constantly uttered by the anxious-looking witnesses in the trial of three alleged Hells Angels rockers. An Upper Austrian was even threatened with death if he said anything during the trial. He had to be accompanied by the police on the journey from Linz to the Wiener Landl and only dared to testify in the absence of the three defendants.
“It’s not going to work well”
Only one witness steps out of line: ‘Mutti’, as the bistro lady of the dance café in Upper Austria is called, where the gang is said to have rioted on the night of September 17, 2023. The DJ, the operations manager and the guests were beaten up and injured: “Things aren’t going well,” the confident witness said to the boss as the rockers formed up. She ran into the kitchen to hide all the knives and pizza rollers. The next moment the fight started.
The woman claims to have clearly recognized the client of lawyer Philipp Wolm: “That’s something. The tattoos are so memorable,” the woman says about the two-meter-high giant from Germany. “I definitely saw him. He wanted to make a phone call in the ladies’ room.” The first defendant himself says that he was not even in the bar that evening. In contrast to dozens of his alleged rocker colleagues who are said to have taken over the restaurant that evening. “When they left, they shouted: We’ll be back,” the witness remembers.
No evidence of protection money extortion
On the second day of the trial in Vienna, the crime of “serious extortion” was dropped – no one affected wanted to confirm the protection fraud in court. The spectacular case, in which heavily armed officers secure the proceedings, revolves around criminal association, reactivation, serious bodily harm and drug trafficking. Adjourned.
