Ronnie and Beverly Barker were considered experienced campers. They crossed the US with their mobile home without any problems. But then the GPS sent the couple into a death trap. Two campers stayed in their cars for days. Only the woman survived.
The map replacement took the couple to a dirt road in the US state of Nevada. Rain showers had softened the ground in the mountainous terrain near the Silver Peak Mountains. The 72-year-old got stuck in the mud after more than four kilometers. Cell phones didn’t work. Rather than wait for help, the couple decided to pull their small car behind them to get help. However, without taking water or food with you. Ronnie Barker got lost with no GPS and also got stuck in the mud with the KIA Soul.
The couple was too weak to walk and stayed in the car to wait for help. With no food or drink and nighttime temperatures around -10 degrees Celsius, the Barkers struggled for days to survive. The 72-year-old has passed away. When rescuers saw Beverly, she was flown in a helicopter to Reno University Hospital. The handicapped only survived because she crawled into a snowfield and got to the water.
