Motorists should, if possible, avoid the Innsbruck Südring and the Grassmayr intersection on Friday afternoon. The organization Fridays For Future holds a street festival there.
From 1:30 PM, the Olympiastrasse between Südbahnstrasse and Leopoldstrasse is no longer accessible in a westerly direction. Only the two eastbound lanes would remain open. Traffic disruptions are also expected on the alternative or diversion routes to the west.
The reason for the road closure is an announced Fridays For Future street festival from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The meeting was registered in time and was not prohibited, police said.
Political exchange before the elections
The organizers of the meeting explained that they wanted to invite people for a political exchange two days before the National Council elections – with a focus on climate policy. The intersection was deliberately chosen because ‘different people come together at an intersection’.
During the event, information about the election will be provided and all visitors will have the opportunity to speak on stage. Children’s programs and musical contributions are also planned, including the band Bluatschink.
