In India, police have arrested five suspects after a suspected ritual murder of a seven-year-old boy. As police announced on Friday, the boy was found dead on Sunday evening in his bed in a dormitory in the city of Hathras, not far from the famous Taj Mahal.
The director did not call the police, but hid the boy’s body in the trunk of his car. Investigator Himanshu Mathur said the principal’s father was suspected of killing the seven-year-old boy as a sacrifice to bring good luck to the school.
Autopsy of boy ordered
Besides the principal and his father, three other teachers from the school in Hathras were arrested. Mathur did not provide details about the circumstances of the child’s death. An autopsy on the body has reportedly begun.
Occultism is still widespread today
According to crime statistics, a total of 103 cases of human sacrifice were recorded in India between 2014 and 2021. Such ritual murders are usually about appeasing gods. These practices are especially prevalent in remote areas where beliefs in witchcraft and the occult are still widespread.
Last year, police arrested five men for the murder of a 64-year-old woman who was killed with a machete and beheaded in 2019 after visiting a temple in northeastern India. According to police, the mastermind staged the murder as part of a religious rite to mark the anniversary of his brother’s death.
