A tragic traffic accident took place in St. Radegund near Graz on Saturday: a 73-year-old suffered a stroke while driving and crashed into a wall. While the man survived with serious injuries, all help for his wife (71) came too late.
On Saturday around 1:20 p.m., a 73-year-old from Graz was driving his car on a municipal road towards the city center of St. Radegund, while his wife (71) was sitting in the passenger seat.
Uncontrollably accelerated
Police say the man may have suffered a stroke while driving, causing him to uncontrollably press the accelerator and crash the car into a retaining wall next to the road. The driver was flown to the LKH Graz by rescue helicopter with serious injuries and hospitalized.
However, all help came too late for his wife: the 71-year-old woman from Graz succumbed to her serious injuries at the scene of the accident, despite attempts at resuscitation by an emergency medical team. Police said both the man and his wife were wearing seat belts.
