The mere sight of a harmless Wildschönau cattle caused a German hiker in Tyrol to panic so much that the woman called 911. The mountain rescue service Auffach/Wildschönau (Kufstein district) then had to go on a very special mission.
‘Resi’ really didn’t expect that. That’s what we call the Tyrolean calf that peacefully enjoyed one of the last days on the alpine pasture with its “mama” and other mother cows and calves in the Wildschönau – without bad intentions. “Resi” was grazing in a meadow near the Steinerhöfen and walked a few meters along the hiking trail into the forest.
Kalb Resi waited behind the Joelspitze
There the animal was met by a fast German alpinist. The young woman had previously bravely climbed the Joelspitze (1964 m) and was now alone on the descent towards Wildschönau. However, she didn’t expect ‘Resi’ in the middle of the walkway. So four eyes looked at each other wide-eyed; according to reports, “Resi” did not feel completely comfortable during the meeting.
Naturally, the German called the emergency number. She felt threatened and attacked by the calf and the herd of cows that had made themselves comfortable in the pasture. The case became a matter for the Auffach/Wildschönau mountain rescue service.
Mountain rescuers had to smile
“When the Tyrol control center contacted me, I smiled a little,” says operations manager Andreas Mayr. He called the panicked German, tried to find out her location and, above all, calmed the young woman. “She sounded quite upset,” says the operations manager.
Four men ran to the scene
Four mountain rescue teams rushed to the site of the alleged cow attack at an altitude of 1,150 metres. Mayr: “During the trip I asked the lady to go back a little on the path.” She did so, while “Resi” stood there quietly.
Led past the cow to the car
When she arrived at the scene, the charming mountain rescuer took the alpinist by the hand and led her past the rather surprised “Resi” to the mountain rescue vehicle. Finally, the uninjured German was driven into the valley.
German wants to pay for his stake
The woman wants to pay for the mission and ‘Resi’ will – supposedly – tell the story to her descendants.
