Horrible accident on the banks of Lake Mondsee: On Sunday evening, a car was thrown into a rock wall, completely deforming the left side of the vehicle. The fire brigade rescued the trapped steering wheel from the wreckage of the car and a total of four people were injured.
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday, emergency services were called to the B154 Mondseestrasse in St. Lorenz. They saw a terrible scene: a car coming from Scharfling had been thrown into a rock wall.
The left side of the vehicle was completely destroyed by the force of the impact. The car came to a stop on the other side of the street, in front of the lakeside, near the guardrails, according to the Mondsee fire brigade.
“Steering wheel stuck”
“The steering wheel was trapped in the seriously deformed accident vehicle, the other three occupants were injured but were able to get out of the vehicle independently,” says Stefan Sturm, chief of operations at the St. Lorenz fire brigade.
Four injured
The emergency services freed the trapped handlebars with the help of a spreader and a hydraulic rescue cylinder. He and the other three occupants of the accident vehicle – nothing further was known about them at this time – were injured, some seriously.
In total, about 60 police, rescue and fire personnel were at work for about two hours. The B154 was closed to traffic during this period.
