The first laboratory-confirmed case of monkey pox was reported in the provincial capital of Linz on Wednesday evening. The infected person is a 34-year-old from Linz.
Immediately after receiving the suspicion report in the morning, the magistrate’s health authority arranged for the suspect to be tested and officially isolated. The contact persons have also been identified and contacted directly. If there are any more suspected cases among the contacts, they will also be separated by the health authorities.
First case also in Vorarlberg
A case of monkey pox was confirmed for the first time in Vorarlberg on Tuesday evening, Health Minister Martina Rüscher (ÖVP) announced on Wednesday. There is no reason for concern. “We expected that cases would also occur in Vorarlberg and we are prepared for this,” said Rüscher. At the time of the suspicion, contacts had already been identified.
A 45-year-old person who came from a high-risk area and had symptoms of fever and a painful blistering rash about a week after returning was struck by the disease.
