Poisonous nitric acid etches through the front door lock – it’s a scary thought for all apartment owners and tenants. A gang breaking into exactly this way is once again up to mischief – after hundreds of coups in 2022 and 2023 across Europe. Krone+ spoke to victims and a responsible detective.
After two weeks of well-deserved vacation, Mr. and Mrs. W. returned to their apartment in Vienna in August. As soon as they held the keys to the front door in their hands, they both noticed something was wrong. The door to her apartment had not been forced open, as is the case in other series of burglaries. However, traces indicated that a liquid had solidified on the ground from the castle. The castle itself no longer existed – someone had clearly searched for something in the rooms. Jewelry, cash and gold were missing.
