Truck crashed into a ditch – “The driver was very, very lucky”

Date:

An accident occurred with a timber transporter in Neuhaus in Carinthia on Monday morning. The driver of the vehicle, which weighed several tons, miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

For unknown reasons, the 34-year-old driver of the timber transporter hit the shoulder with the rear axle and fell. “The driver was very, very lucky,” says Michael Visotschnig, commander of the Neuhaus volunteer fire brigade, in an interview with “Krone”.

Heavy vehicle ends up in the ditch
When the firefighters from the Neuhaus and Bach fire brigade arrived on the scene, the situation was still completely unclear. “We saw three people standing by the side of the road,” says Visotschnig. Only when the commander looked into the ditch did he see the magnitude of the accident. The truck spun once and landed upside down in the ditch.

Driver’s cabin almost completely destroyed
To the relief of the fire brigade: the driver was able to get out of the accident vehicle himself. “But the cabin was completely destroyed on the passenger side. Fortunately, no one was there,” says the commander. The fire service had to secure the wreckage, which had to be salvaged.

The 34-year-old was slightly injured in the accident and was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Wolfsberg.
