María Luisa García Gurrutxaga (Ataun, 1959) will replace Odón Elorza as PSOE deputy for Gipuzkoa in the Congress of Deputies. Gurrutxaga holds a degree in education specializing in Basque philology and proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge.

She was also a socialist councilor in San Sebastián and is currently secretary of Education, Culture and Euskera in the board of the PSE-EE of Gipuzkoa.

Elorza has assured that he is ending his career as a deputy in Congress to avoid “disagreements” with his party after verifying that his “contributions and parliamentary initiatives” “have not been useful to the Socialist Group for some time”.

The former mayor of San Sebastián made his decision public this Monday in a letter to his colleagues in Congress, explaining that his resignation is intended as “a gesture of loyalty to the Socialist Party while maintaining consistency”. with his ideals. .
