Serious hiking accident Tuesday afternoon at Lake Achensee in Tyrol! A German woman (56) fell from the Gaisalmsteig into the water and hit the back of her head. The woman was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck with serious skull injuries.
Shortly before 4 p.m., a family of four German holidaymakers came from Achenkirch and hiked along the Gaisalmsteig to the Gaisalm. Not far from the inn, a 56-year-old German climbed a small rocky peninsula, but slipped on a damp stone and fell backwards about three meters into the water on the bank. “The woman hit the back of her head on the rocky bank,” police said.
Large contingent of emergency services
The 56-year-old suffered serious skull injuries and was then flown to the clinic in Innsbruck by rescue helicopter. Also the Achenkirch volunteer fire brigade with ten emergency services and the fire boat, the water rescue service with five emergency services and the water rescue boat, and a patrol from the Jenbach police with the police boat and an Alpine police officer. The family of the injured were returned to the accommodation by the fire brigade.
