Italy expects a decline in the number of tourists by 2.5 percent for the whole of 2024. By the end of this year, 130.3 million arrivals and 445.3 million overnight stays are expected, respectively 2.5 percent and 0.4 percent less than in 2023.
The decline is mainly because Italian tourists go on holiday less due to higher prices. Research by opinion research institute Demooskopika shows that a decline of 4.5 percent in arrivals and 2.5 percent in overnight stays is expected.
For foreigners, the number of arrivals is expected to remain stable (minus 0.6 percent) and the number of overnight stays to increase (1.4 percent).
In the holiday month of August alone, prices for campsites rose by 12.9 percent, those for hotels by 4 percent and those for other accommodation providers by 7.2 percent.
