Search canceled – mountaineer (21) lost in the snow in Tyrol

Date:

Fear for a 21-year-old mountaineer in Tyrol: Despite the most unfavorable weather conditions, the German climbed the Hohe Munde (about 2,600 meters) on Thursday. After reaching the top, contact was lost. There has been no trace of the young man since then. A search had to be called off in the evening.

Despite the bad weather forecast, two Germans wanted to climb the Hohe Munde on Thursday. As the companion retreated and turned around around 2 p.m., the 21-year-old was apparently eager to reach the top. It is said that he has finally achieved this.

Search with helicopter impossible
But then the misfortune began: the German probably fell at an altitude of 2,500 meters. He contacted his companion, who in turn made an emergency call to Germany. “The Tyrol control center was then informed about the Germans,” said a police spokesperson when asked by “Krone”. An operation or search with the helicopter was not possible due to the unfavorable weather conditions.

Heavy snow and ice
That is why numerous emergency services from the Leutasch and Telfs mountain rescue teams climbed to the Hohe Munde. It was extremely dangerous. There was heavy snowfall and boulders and rocks were covered with a thick layer of ice. Apparently some emergency services managed to reach the point where the last GPS signal was.

But no trace of the 21-year-old German could be found. “The operation had to be halted around 9 p.m. due to weather and darkness,” the police spokesperson continued.

Looks too dangerous right now
The search was interrupted on Friday. Too dangerous! At least three helicopters were ready, it was said late in the morning.
