A spectacular traffic accident kept the Viennese blue light organizations busy in Floridsdorf early Monday morning: shortly before 6 p.m. three cars collided with each other at the intersection of Brünner and Stammersdorfer Strasse. The vehicles were wedged together or stacked on top of each other, firefighters spokesman Bernhard Platzer reported. One person was seriously injured and three others slightly injured.
When the fire brigade arrived, those involved had already been rescued from the wreckage. The Vienna professional fire brigade has taken a 37-year-old with serious head injuries to hospital in a critical condition by helicopter, their spokesman Andreas Huber reported.
A 52-year-old, a 56-year-old and a 38-year-old escaped with bruises and scrapes, but were also taken to hospital for further clarification. Clearing the scene of the accident proved difficult for the fire service.
