A tragedy occurred on Friday evening in Weißenbach near Liezen: because her son did not come home as promised, the mother of a 21-year-old Styrian raised the alarm. He had set out alone on a mountain hike and therefore a large contingent of emergency services searched for him. On Saturday he was found dead alone in the mountains.
On Friday evening, the mother of a 21-year-old from the Liezen district had an uncomfortable feeling: her son had not come home as agreed. Worried about him, she immediately reported the incident to the local police the next morning. During the course of the investigation, an even bigger shock came: your son probably started a mountain hike after work around noon, from which he never returned.
The mountain rescue came with search dogs
A major search was immediately launched: the kidnapper’s car was found in the Hinteregg parking lot. Then the location of the cell phone data was initiated. Because it was a very large search area, the mountain rescue services of Liezen, Stainach, Admont, Trieben, Rottenmann, Hohentauern, Selzthal and Spital am Phyrn were called in with a total of 60 personnel as well as sniffer dogs.
21-year-old fell into the depths at Loanstein
In the morning someone was finally found on the Loanstein, a rarely used mountain path from Weißenbach near Liezen to the 1,955 meter high Kosennspitz. However, when the crew of the Christophorus 14 rescue helicopter arrived, all they could determine was that the 21-year-old had crashed. The body was recovered by a police helicopter.
