A son of Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden has been expelled from France, where he spent years as an artist painting landscapes in a village in Normandy. The reason: He has published comments on social media that are deemed to glorify terrorism.
According to local weekly Le Publicateur Libre, bin Laden came to the attention of French authorities through a social media post on his father’s birthday.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau announced that he had signed an order denying Omar bin Laden entry to France – “for any reason”.
Bin Laden had already been deported before. Retailleau did not provide details about the time of the deportation or the location to which bin Laden was deported.
His father Osama bin Laden, originally from Saudi Arabia, was the main organizer of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US, which left thousands dead. He was killed by a US task force in his hideout in Pakistan in 2011. Omar is the fourth eldest son.
