In a charity run – no heartbeat: Steirer saved the life of a 60-year-old

Date:

Happy coincidence: a Styrian, who is also a paramedic at the same time, came to a charity run in Voitsberg, Styria, at a point where a 60-year-old had collapsed shortly before. Thanks to his determination, the man may have survived.

Together with his firefighter comrades, Christoph Amberger unpacked his Nordic walking sticks on Wednesday evening to take part in the 20th “Run & Help Lauf” charity run in Voitsberg.

Steirer happened to be there and acted
“About halfway through the five-kilometer run, I saw two people resuscitating a runner a few feet away,” he says. The Styrian choice, who is a paramedic with the Red Cross by profession, immediately took action and took over from the two nurses: “The man had no pulse and was no longer breathing.”

So he immediately began CPR and rescue breathing to revive the 60-year-old from respiratory arrest. It took three to four minutes for the emergency doctor to arrive and immediately after that the 60-year-old’s pulse could be felt again. In stable condition, he was flown by helicopter to Graz.

Already a life saver
Fortunately, the native of Carinthia was in the right place at the right time. In Wolfsberg, he already saved the life of a neighbor: he found the man upside down in the stream and brought him back to life – he survived.

The Ren- en Helploop is organized by Atus Voitsberg. Chairman Christoph Friedrich is grateful: “We are very pleased that the first responders, especially the members of the Voitsberg city fire brigade and the emergency services, have immediately implemented the rescue chain and the motto of the run perfectly, so to speak!”
