Satse criticizes that in the summer the ‘improperness’ between midwife and user, which has been chronic all year round, worsens, causing the workload to increase.
The Nurses’ Union of Euskadi-Satse has called on Bizkaia midwives for a first day of strike on July 1, to protest against Osakidetza’s ‘passivity’ in light of the cuts in employment and the increase in workload during the summer.
As reported by the union, the lack of generational change and insufficient number of specialist training places has led to an ‘inadequate’ midwife-to-user ratio, which worsens during the holiday period and makes it impossible to cover absences.
In this context, Satse urges Osakidetza to “guarantee” the coverage of such absences through “efficient and sustainable” recruitment policies, and to recognize “adequate” ratios to ensure “quality” care.
He also recalls that they asked Osakidetza “several times” to agree on “short-term solutions for this summer,” but from that institution they “refused to listen to the professionals.”
