Floods – Huge thunderstorm cell above the Bregenzerwald

Date:

On Tuesday evening a heavy thunderstorm broke out above Vorarlberg. The Bregenzerwald was especially hard hit. The L200 was barely passable in some places.

Although the thunderstorm had been forecast by some weather services, many were still surprised, especially by the intensity of the rain. In the Bregenzerwald, for example, hell-like scenes could be observed; the rain was so heavy that many drivers tried to get to the nearest parking lot to wait out the worst.

The L 200 was completely under water in parts, the water flowed down the slopes, every stream swelled, the water simply bubbled from the springs. In places where there is otherwise no water at all, streams formed along the road. Hail also thundered down for minutes in the region, especially on Alberschwende.

Houses close to the road were flooded, with the water carrying away branches, gravel and pebbles. After about 40 minutes, around 6 p.m., the storm cell was dead; It will also have caused a lot of damage elsewhere, and the fire brigade had and still has its hands full.
