The hostages’ families were furious this Sunday when they learned of the deaths of their loved ones. They assured that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had signed a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, they would still be alive.
The Palestinian Resistance Group Hamas ha guilty this sunday to Israel and its main partner and arms supplier, US, for the death of the six hostageswho had been held captive in the Gaza Strip since the October 7 attack and claimed they had been killed by Israeli “bombardment.”
“The responsibility for the deaths of the prisoners held by the resistance lies with the occupation, which insists on continuing its genocidal war and avoiding a ceasefire agreement, as well as with the US government for its bias, support and complicity,” he said. Izzat al Rishqmember of the political bureau of Hamas.
“The one who kills our people every day is the occupation, with American weapons, and the discovery of the bodies of the prisoners in the Gaza Strip shows that they were killed exclusively by Zionist bombardments,” he stressed in a statement.
The Israeli military confirmed on Sunday that it had recovered the bodies of six hostages from an underground tunnel in the Rafah area, in the far south of the Palestinian enclave, where Israeli ground forces have been raiding since last May.
The military spokesman, Daniel Hagarisaid this morning that an initial investigation showed the six hostages had been killed by Hamas shortly before forces reached them, but gave no further details.
According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the autopsies “indicate that they were all shot in the head and there is no doubt that they died as a result of the gunshots,” but the source is not named.
The relatives of the hostages were furious this Sunday upon hearing of the deaths of their loved ones, and asserted that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had signed a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, they would still be alive.
“Those who murder kidnapped people do not want an agreement,” Netanyahu responded in a recorded message. “We, for our part, will not give up. The Israeli government is determined, and I am personally determined, to continue fighting for an agreement that will return all our kidnapped people and guarantee our security and existence.”
The talk of a ceasefire that would have allowed the release of the 97 hostages remaining in Gaza – 30 of whom have been killed – has reached a stalemate amid clashing accusations that new demands were added to the ceasefire proposal that the United States extended in May.
