Former US House of Representatives Leader Kevin McCarthy is resigning as Representative (see video above). He announced that he would “serve America in new ways.” “I know my work is just beginning.”
McCarthy was voted out as speaker of the House of Representatives in a historic vote in early October. He held the position for only nine months. Radical Republicans first obstructed his election and then drove him from office. It was the first time in American history that a Speaker of the House of Representatives had lost his job in this way. The office ranks third in the hierarchy of the United States, after the president and his vice president.
“Challenges can be solved through innovation”
The 58-year-old Republican said he has started a career as a small business owner and looks forward to helping companies and risk-takers reach their full potential. “The challenges we face can be solved more by innovation than by laws.” It often even seems that the more Washington (the government, note) does, the worse off America is.
Nevertheless, according to his own statement, McCarthy leaves with a “smile on his face.” He knows his work is just beginning, he wrote in the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
