The spectacular rape case currently being tried in Avignon, France, has a gruesome aspect. A witness reported that the main defendant, Dominique Pelicot (72), also offered him sex with his drugged wife; in return he would do yard work.
The scale of the case, which is making headlines far beyond French borders, shocks even the most hardened souls. Another cruel detail has now been revealed in court: a 42-year-old witness now reported that Pelicot offered him his wife Gisele if he would garden in return.
“He asked me to do some gardening and in return he offered me his wife,” the witness describes the conversation with the main suspect. “I offered him a Saturday morning. He said no because he is giving her a pill to make her sleep.” The witness then told Pelicot “that this is rape and I don’t agree with that,” the 42-year-old reported in court. .
Pelicot told witnesses that he did this act “very often.”
The main defendant apparently could not understand this reaction. “He added that he gives his wife drugs and often offers her to men,” the witness said.
50 other men indicted
Main defendant Pelicot had previously confessed in court that he had drugged his wife from 2011 to 2020 and offered her to other men for rape. Fifty other suspects are also accused of the abuse, all of whom could receive up to twenty years in prison.
