Airstrike in Syria – Next Hezbollah official killed by Israel

Date:

Another senior official of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia has been killed in Syria. According to the Israeli army, Adham Jahut of the terrorist cell “Golan Terrorist Network” was killed in an airstrike near the Golan Heights on Wednesday.

Jahut was apparently active as an intermediary who passed on information from Syrian government circles “to Hezbollah”. The attack took place in the Kuneitra area of southwestern Syria.

Israel: No breathing room for Hezbollah
Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi had earlier announced that attacks on the Iran-backed Hezbollah would continue “without pause.” This is intended to prevent the militia from re-forming. “We will continue to attack Hezbollah with all our might, without granting any respite or respite,” Halevi said.

More explosions in Syria
According to Syrian media reports, Israel also carried out airstrikes on an industrial facility in the city of Homs and a military target near Hama. According to Syrian authorities, only “minor material damage” was caused. A car factory in Homs was hit and a fire broke out. Explosions were also reported in the city of Daraa, the cause of which is still under investigation.

Iranian retaliation for killing of Hezbollah chief
Israel rarely provides information about attacks in Syria, but does not want to allow Iran’s presence in Syria to expand. The Hezbollah protection force Iran carried out a large-scale rocket attack on Israel last Tuesday evening. Tehran justified this, among other things, with the murder of Hezbollah chief Nasrallah in a southern suburb of Beirut.

Hezbollah is firmly anchored in the Bekaa Valley, which borders Syria, but also in southern Lebanon and in the Lebanese capital Beirut. The heavily armed Shiite militia backed by Iran is also expanding its influence in Syria. She has been fighting alongside Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad in the civil war for years. The militia relies on its ally in Damascus to transport weapons from Iran.

Israel discusses retaliation against Iran
Israel’s security cabinet also plans to discuss a possible retaliatory strike against Iran on Thursday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu planned the meeting, the American news portal Axios reported. Under Israeli law, the head of government needs the approval of the security cabinet for decisions on far-reaching military actions.
