Hurricane ‘Milton’ hit the American state of Florida with enormous force. A man who was on the open sea with his fishing boat also felt this…
The man was traveling in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday on a fishing boat that was unable to maneuver off the coast of Madeira Beach, Florida, just hours before Hurricane Milton made landfall.
Rescue divers on duty
The Coast Guard said they were able to contact him before the radio went out around 6:45 p.m. It wasn’t until Thursday that the man was discovered by a Coast Guard helicopter nearly 30 miles outside Longboat Key after hours of searching. The man clung to a cooler which saved his life.
A rescue diver was absorbed below
Despite the extreme conditions caused by the hurricane, he survived the ordeal on the open sea. A rescue diver was lifted down and brought the man safely on board.
“He experienced a nightmare scenario”
Dana Grady of the Coast Guard told CNN: “This man survived a nightmare scenario.” The fisherman survived wind speeds of up to 145 km/h and incredibly high waves of up to 7.6 meters. The storm victim is currently recovering in the Tampa hospital from the stress and shock of this traumatic experience.
Hurricane Milton caused significant damage in Florida and claimed several lives. The fisherman’s dramatic rescue is one of the few positive stories amid the devastating devastation left by the storm.
