Boeing announces the layoff of 17,000 employees, 10% of its workforce

The company has been dealing with a strike since September 13, with no signs of it ending anytime soon. This is in addition to the technical problems that several of its aircraft have had recently.

The Boeing company announced on Friday that it will lay off 10% of its workforce “in the coming months”, equivalent to about 17,000 people.

The layoffs will affect directors, managers and rank-and-file employees, Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg said in a letter to all employees. Moreover, he has promised more detailed information in the coming week.

Boeing has been facing a strike since September 13, with no signs of it ending anytime soon, and this is in addition to the technical problems recorded by several of its aircraft in recent times: the company has reported at least seven incidents in 2024 alone , although none were fatal.

After the layoffs were announced, and in trading after Wall Street closed, the company’s shares fell 1.90%.
