Six dead – fire helicopter crashes in Brazil

All six people on board were killed when a firefighting helicopter crashed in southeastern Brazil. The helicopter crashed after helping search for a downed single-engine plane in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais state, according to consistent media reports.

“They fell victim to an accident while carrying out their noble rescue mission in Ouro Preto. My condolences and prayers go out to their families and friends at this difficult time,” Governor Romeu Zema of Minas Gerais said on X.

Helicopter spotted near plane crash site
According to fire officials, the helicopter was found after a 12-hour search in a steep mountain range in a wooded area near the crash site of the single-engine plane. The crew consisted of four firefighters, a nurse and a doctor. The pilot was killed in the single-engine plane crash that occurred Friday afternoon. The cause of the two accidents was not yet known.
