Brit makes a Beatles portrait from 24,000 screws

Date:

A British artist has portrayed the legendary Beatles using 24,000 screws. Darren Timby from Sunderland in North East England invested around 120 hours into the artwork, which features George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney making music – with microphones, drum sticks and guitar necks.

Timby explained that his screw art was a tribute to the industrial city of Sunderland. “Shipbuilding and mining are part of our history, my art with screws is a nod to my homeland,” he said.

Work approximately 6 feet wide
He uses a mix of gold and black screws on a white canvas. He works with four tones. This creates the necessary depth so that viewers can recognize the motifs.

In total, the work is approximately 1.80 meters wide and 90 centimeters high.

Timby has been tinkering since 2020. “I find it very therapeutic,” he said. The Beatles are his twelfth work. He has previously screwed Freddie Mercury, Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth II, Keith Richards and Elvis Presley.
