Sabotage by Russia – plane crash in Germany narrowly avoided

Date:

A package at Leipzig airport caught fire in the summer – Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution reports they narrowly escaped catastrophe. It is said that this was an act of Russian sabotage. If the plane carrying the incendiary package had taken off on time, the plane would have caught fire and crashed.

The German secret services warned on Monday during a hearing of the Parliamentary Control Committee of the Bundestag of a growing threat from Russia.

Package almost caught fire on plane
An espionage case led to a particularly dangerous situation in DHL’s logistics center at Leipzig Airport. A package from the Baltic states almost led to a plane crash, as “Bild” reported, citing the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. If the plane had taken off on time with the package containing an incendiary device, it would have caught fire during the flight.

The chairman of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution speaks of a happy coincidence
It was just a happy coincidence that it caught fire at the logistics center on the ground due to the delay, President Thomas Haldenwang of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution explained. So it “only” set fire to a container and not an airplane. Security circles suspect that Russian sabotage was behind the incident.

After this incident, security authorities warned about “unconventional incendiary devices” shipped via freight carriers. The security advisory stated that they were “aware of several parcel shipments posted by private individuals to locations in Europe that caught fire en route to their recipients in several European countries.”

“We are in a direct conflict with Russia”
“The Russian armed forces should be able to launch an attack on NATO by the end of this decade at the latest,” Federal Intelligence Service (BND) Chairman Bruno Kahl said at the hearing on Monday. The Kremlin views the Federal Republic as an enemy. “We are in a direct conflict with Russia,” Kahl emphasized.

Moreover, the Russian secret services increasingly acted with all their capabilities “and without any scruples.” “A further deterioration of the situation is anything but unlikely,” the BND president warned.

The Kremlin sees NATO as a threat
Russia rejected Kahl’s statement. It is NATO that threatens Russia and not the other way around, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, referring to NATO’s gradual expansion in recent years – which, however, was desired by Eastern European states.
