Accident in Spain – Briton falls to his death from bridge due to cell phone video

Date:

A British daredevil fell to his death on Sunday when he tried to use his mobile phone to climb the mast of Spain’s highest cable-stayed bridge in the town of Talavera de la Reina to take photos. The city council there had warned several times about such actions.

As the security officer of the city of Talavera de la Reina announced on Monday, the 26-year-old Briton and his younger compatriot climbed onto the Puente de Castilla-La Mancha bridge in the early morning hours to record content for online media. . The 26-year-old fell and died.

Time and again, courage is tested on the bridge
Heavy rain over the weekend likely left the bridge’s surface slippery, Spanish media said. The Puente de Castilla-La Mancha in Talavera de la Reina in the Spanish province of Toledo, supported by 152 steel cables, is repeatedly climbed by people completing courage tests or recording cell phone videos for online media, even though this is prohibited.

The city council has warned several times that climbing is not allowed “under any circumstances”, according to the safety official. The body of the 26-year-old Briton was removed by a coroner and taken to a funeral home, the municipality said in a press release.

“As we learned, the two young men had come to Talavera to climb the bridge and post content on social media, which led to this sad and disastrous outcome,” said Macarena Muñoz, councilor of Talavera la Reina.

The mast – this is the term used in bridge construction to describe the towering part over which the supporting cables of suspension or cable-stayed bridges run – of the 730 meter long Puente de Castilla-La Mancha is 192 meters high.
