The pact includes new bonuses on the waste rate that will increase by 100%.
The municipal groups of EH Bildu, PSE-EE and PNV have agreed on an overall increase in the 4% on rates, public prices and taxes of Vitoria-Gasteiz for next year 2025, as well as increasing the number of bonuses for citizens related to the waste rate which, due to a legal obligation, will be “doubled” by 100%.
The spokesperson for the Abertzale coalition in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Rocio Vitero, presided over the announcement of the pact on Tuesday during a press conference in which she outlined some of the details of the agreement.
It is, as noted, a project of tax regulations, characterized by the Waste Act, to finance 100% of the collection, transport and processing services through this rate. Vitero has taken on the European mandate, but its formation has introduced ‘progressive’ measures to ‘improve the distribution of costs’.
In this sense, the project even includes “new sections of bonuses based on the surface area of the houses and buildings”, to “achieve a remarkable reduction for the smallest.”
EH Bildu therefore amounts to a reduction that “can amount to 50% compared to the original proposal of the municipal government” in order to “obtain small discounts for all homes smaller than 90 square meters, more than 57,000 homes, half of the total of homes in the municipality”, as well as that “the rate increases for those over 120 square meters”.
Regarding commercial and catering establishments, EH Bildu has introduced a reduction of up to 50% compared to the PSE-EE and PNV proposal for buildings of less than 300 square meters; bars of less than 250 square meters and, up to 75%, in the case of restaurants of less than 250 meters. As a result, “smaller establishments will see a more moderate increase and larger establishments will see a larger increase.”
Among the bonuses, the agreement includes a 10% discount “for all families registering for the census” on data from the collection system for organic fractions, another 10% based on the number of openings of the organic container, a bonus of 5 % for composting programs and 5% more aid compared to the government’s proposal in all income groups of social bonuses.
For the rest of the tariffs, government prices and taxes, they agreed on an overall increase of 4%, compared to the government’s original proposal of 6.3% and the nationalist coalition’s 3.2%.
