Black Debris – Beach is closed due to ‘mysterious’ bullets

Date:

A mysterious phenomenon has led to the closure of a popular beach in Australia. Hundreds of “mysterious, black, spherical debris” washed up – it is still unclear where the bullets came from.

“Coogee Beach is closed until further notice,” said Mayor Dylan Parker. The beads appeared Tuesday evening; authorities still don’t know what material it is from.

However, there is already a suspicion. “It is unknown at this time what the material is, but it could be tar balls, which form when oil comes into contact with dirt and water, usually as a result of oil spills or leaks,” Parker explains.

New balls have washed up
The beach was cleaned overnight but remained closed. “Beachgoers are asked to avoid Coogee Beach until further notice and not to touch the equipment while the clean-up and investigation continues,” the mayor said. New debris also washed ashore on Wednesday.

Parker also said city crews may have discovered an oil slick at sea Wednesday morning. According to the Guardian, a local resident discovered a single seagull covered in oil. This was “the only sign of the oil slick that we saw.”

No shipping pollution has been reported
In any case, no oil pollution from shipping was reported, but it is the duty of the crew to “report any oil pollution to the responsible authorities.”
