An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck eastern Turkey. According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the earthquake had its epicenter in Malatya province. Malatya Mayor Sami Er said there have been no reports of injuries or major property damage so far.
The earthquake was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Elazig and Diyarbakir.
People are no longer allowed to enter the houses
The Afad Civil Protection Bureau reported that four people were rescued unharmed from a partially damaged building in Elazig. For the time being, people were advised not to return to their homes.
Malatya was also one of the provinces severely affected by the earthquake on February 6, 2023. More than 1,000 of the more than 50,000 deaths died in Malatya. Many people in the province are still living in containers, and tens of thousands of buildings have been destroyed by the twin earthquakes there.
