A very spectacular accident occurred in the port of Keelung, Taiwan’s second most important port. A cargo ship loaded with a harbor crane struck one of the large harbor cranes on land and caused it to fall (see video). There was enormous material damage.
The incident happened around 2pm local time on Monday, but the video recordings have only now been published. They show the stern of a harbor crane transported on the freighter Yuzhou Qihang colliding with a gantry crane at the port’s Pier 20.
The huge harbor crane then tipped over a container on the pier and crushed it. Fortunately, no people were injured in the incident. The freighter Yuzhou Qihang was traveling at a speed of only 3.5 kilometers per hour at the time of the accident.
Local authorities estimate the damage caused by the collision at almost 8.6 million euros. The investigation into the incident has not yet been completed, it is said.
