Israel confirms the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar

Tel Aviv has claimed that Yahya Sinwar was killed during fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Israel believes it has killed Hamas’ top leader and the mastermind behind the October 7 attacks. Yahya Sinwarthe most wanted man in the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, as confirmed by the official Israeli army radio.

“Yahya Sinwar has been eliminated,” the official media reported, a message similar to that broadcast by KAN public television.

Although Hamas has not yet made an official statement, sources from the Islamist group quoted by Reuters acknowledge that there are indications that Sinwar has died.

According to Israeli media, the death of Hamas number 1 is said to have occurred in a battle between infantry troops and Hamas militiamen during a routine patrol yesterday afternoon in Rafah, on the southern side of the Gaza Strip.

The army reported a few hours ago that it had killed “three terrorists” during its military operations in the Gaza Strip, without specifying when or where, and they confirmed with DNA tests whether one of them was Sinwar.

In the past, Israel has assassinated several senior Hamas leaders: the group’s wheelchair-bound founder, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin in March 2004, and his successor Abdelaziz Rantisi less than a month later, as well as two other leaders of the armed wing, Salah Shehade. (2002) or Ahmed Yabari (2012).
