New media analysis 2023/24: The “Krone” is again the absolute number one with more than 1.6 million readers per issue (Monday to Sunday).
There has been a lot of talk for years about the alleged crisis of traditional media. And then these figures: more than 1.6 million Austrians read the country’s most popular newspaper every day, and on Sundays that number is even more than 2.1 million!
Of course this is not a guessing game, but in Austria everyone knows who the number one print media is: the Kronen Zeitung!
And as the media analysis 2023/24 published on Thursday, i.e. the reader survey commissioned by all print media with more than 15,000 interviews, now for the period July 2023 to June 2024, proves, it remains completely superior.
Because while the “Krone” (comparisons with previous years are not allowed due to methodological and substantive changes) is again the absolute number 1 among readers, the next ranked newspaper, the free newspaper “Heute”, is almost a million readers behind . At the Kleine Zeitung the gap is even bigger: it is even more than a million behind and now only has 599,000 readers on Sundays, barely more than a quarter of the audience we reach on Sundays.
The next posted articles (see graph above) have even lower values, for which they are only marginally relevant nationally. For the most part, they do not even reach the number of readers throughout Austria that the “Krone” reaches in the strongest federal states alone.
The importance of the “crown” for the entire country is particularly impressively demonstrated in the so-called cross-media reach recently evaluated through media analysis. The brand reach for print and online is shown here. The “Krone” achieves a reach of 27.1 percent in Austria with Kronen Zeitung and krone.at. The ‘Standaard’ and the ‘Kleine Zeitung’ barely overcome the ten percent threshold.
The most visited online news portal, the most read news newsletter, proud growth in the Krone Plus offering and, and, and… All this confirms for us at “Krone” that with our strategy we have the best offer on all channels About it Overall, we are right to be number one among Austrians.
It is this positive response from Austrians that encourages us to strive to be the voice of Austria together with our vast group of readers!
