In North Korea, all fever patients are said to have recovered for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak. There has been no new case since July 30. However, experts doubt the numbers the country reports.
According to government figures, 4.77 million people have contracted a fever since April and 74 have died. However, experts expressed doubts, especially about the number of deaths. Shin Young-jeon, a professor at Hanyang University School of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, said so few deaths were nearly “impossible.” He assumes that up to 50,000 people have died.
No official figures on Covid-19
How many people had Covid-19 has never been officially disclosed. North Korea has very little testing capacity but has announced it will double its anti-epidemic policy.
There has reportedly been no new case of fever since July 30, which is why state media speak of a “phase of stability”.
