Willingness to help – Carinthians collected 40 bales of hay for flood victims

Date:

A brave Carinthian collected eleven tons of dried hay through a fundraiser for a farmer from Lower Austria who had lost a lot due to the flood.

“Strong are the people who help others without asking for anything in return,” is the saying that describes farmer Christian Matschnig Jr. from Dröschitz near Velden is probably the best. He was extremely upset when he heard of the violent floods that had washed away the belongings of countless families in Lower Austria.

“Many farmers also lost a large portion of their animals and feed supplies. If you are in such a situation, you just have to help,” says Matschnig, who therefore tried to contact the affected farmers through the fire brigade. The commander of the FF Velden, Manfred Brugger, who was deployed in Lower Austria together with many other Carinthians at the time, eventually managed to locate a stricken farm.

“Because I wanted to help, I started a fundraising campaign. Fortunately, we had a very good harvest year this year, so you can also give something away.” So Matschnig collected 40 bales of hay: “The transport to Lower Austria was also quickly organized by private donors, the municipality of Velden and the Fuchs company.” That was delivered to Hay on Thursday.

The willingness to help runs in the family: son Fabian was honored in 2022 as a ‘Krone’ person of heart for his services as a firefighter.
