After the knife murder of a 65-year-old woman in Zistersdorf (Lower Austria), the perpetrator was tracked down. He barricaded himself in a wine cellar near the crime scene. A first access attempt failed. A Cobra officer was seriously injured.
According to information available to the Crown, a booby trap was triggered. The hiding place of the wanted man is only a few hundred meters as the crow flies from the crime scene where a terrible bloody act took place on Friday afternoon. A Slovakian allegedly made several large cuts in the 65-year-old woman’s neck. The body was discovered in a vineyard in the Gösting district. Even though the emergency doctor was alerted, all help for the victim came too late. The 65-year-old died on the spot.
Place partially evacuated
A large police force was looking for the man. The special Cobra unit, several helicopters and sniffer dogs were also in action. The board had asked all residents to follow the instructions of the officials. During the search, Gösting’s cadastral community of Zistersdorf, which has about 300 inhabitants, was also partially evacuated.
On Saturday morning, Chief Inspector Johann Baumschlager announced that the place where the man most likely stayed had been identified. The area where the woman’s body was found was cordoned off.
