A man was arrested in Tokyo on Saturday morning (local time) after throwing several firebombs at the headquarters of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and crashing his car into a security fence.
The five to six Molotov cocktail-like objects hit a police car, but the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured, public broadcaster NHK reported.
The alleged perpetrator also tried to drive his car to the office of the Japanese head of government, but was stopped by a fence, NHK reports. According to media reports, the perpetrator then tried to throw a smoke bomb but was stopped by police officers.
Perpetrator remains silent after arrest
Nothing is known about any injuries. According to the Kyodo News news agency, the attacker was arrested without resistance. He allegedly did not speak a word during his interrogation.
