Spectacular accident Wednesday night in the Tyrolean Oberland: A drunk driver (31) first crashed into the guardrails at Zams (Landeck district) and fell over a steep dike. Trees have prevented another crash. The woman suffered serious injuries.
The accident happened just after 12:30 p.m., police said. The 31-year-old Amsterdammer was driving on the B171 Tiroler Straße from Schönwies in the direction of Landeck when she suddenly came into the oncoming lane at Zams and first hit the guardrail over a length of ten meters and mowed down a guide pole.
Rescued from wreckage
The car then drifted off the roadway and fell about 15 meters down a steep slope. The car eventually came to a stop near a tree. The driver sustained injuries and was able to free himself from the wreckage, police said.
Driver drunk
The 31-year-old therefore received first aid from the alarmed rescue service at the accident site and was subsequently transferred to the Zams district hospital. A breath analysis was positive. The car was completely scrapped.
