A 38-year-old drug addict from Graz shot his girlfriend in a rage with a bow and arrow. The 42-year-old’s life was in danger for days, but is now being cared for at home. The perpetrator is in custody – and doesn’t say a word.
‘Help, my friend shot me. With arrows. I’m bleeding to death.” It was Sunday, September 15, when the Graz police received an emergency call at 6:55 a.m. from a 42-year-old. The woman is breathing heavily, can hardly speak and does not know where she is. She is seriously injured; there are two arrows in her upper body, fired by a 38-year-old with whom she has only recently had a relationship. The couple is addicted to drugs and known in the scene. The officers managed to determine the whereabouts of the victim, an apartment in the Gries district.
Sent to home care
It belongs to the suspected perpetrator, who is long gone when the first patrol cars arrive. The 42-year-old was taken to hospital and immediately underwent emergency surgery. For days she hovered between life and death; the projectiles hit the heart and stomach and injured several organs. It was only thanks to the art of the Graz doctors that she survived the assassination attempt on her boyfriend. “She has now been released into home care,” confirms police spokesman Fritz Grundnig.
After the insane act, the archer fled in a black car to southeastern Styria. When he breaks down and needs to replace the front tire, the locals talk to him and ask if they can help him. “He seemed completely absent and unfriendly. “There was clearly something wrong with him,” said an eyewitness. Around 7 p.m., Cobra officers stopped the fugitive in a forest in Fehring with a shot, seriously wounding him.
The 38-year-old has since recovered and is now in custody in Graz. But the motive for his bloody act is still a mystery to detectives – because the man from Graz remains silent. “He doesn’t talk to the police,” says Fritz Grundnig. Was the man acting under the influence, or was there an attempted murder during an argument? Only the court can resolve this question…
