When Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, young Israeli Shirel Golan celebrated at the Supernova Festival. While many festival goers died around her, she survived the massacre. But the terrible impressions may have been too much for the young woman: a year after the attack, she took her own life on her birthday.
What started as a lavish festival near Kibbutz Re’im turned into a nightmare for the young crowd a day later: at 6:30 am, armed Hamas terrorists stormed the area and tried to kill as many visitors as possible or take them to Gaza. Stripping to deport. 364 victims died and 40 people were kidnapped.
Golan and other festival goers tried to escape the attackers in a car. However, the terrorists shot at the car and killed eleven passengers. The young woman was eventually rescued by police, but the emotional wounds from this ordeal were clearly very deep.
The victim suffered from post-traumatic stress
A human rights lawyer now reported that Golan had committed suicide; she had committed it Committed suicide in her apartment on her 22nd birthday. “I saw that she had symptoms of post-traumatic stress,” her brother Eyal told Israeli media. After the attack, she became socially isolated and was hospitalized twice.
Brother: ‘Don’t get help from the state’
“I asked her to take care of herself. She said that she did not receive any help from the state (…) If the state had taken care of her, none of this would have happened,” her brother makes serious accusations. The Israeli Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs denies this: the young woman had already had problems before the massacre and was receiving treatment.
