ISS astronauts return home safely after hurricane

Date:

Hurricane “Milton” foiled their return travel plans about two weeks ago, but now members of “Crew 8” have landed safely back on Earth. Their capsule crashed into the sea off the coast of Florida after more than thirty hours of flight.

“Crew 8” includes NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt and Jeanette Epps, as well as Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin. They flew on a ‘Crew Dragon’ capsule from technology billionaire Elon Musk’s private space company SpaceX, which was recovered shortly after hitting the sea. According to NASA, the astronauts have important research results in their baggage.

200 experiments during stay
“Crew 8” conducted approximately 200 experiments aboard the ISS, including stem cells and plants. They also tested whether pressure cuffs on the legs could help prevent health problems in astronauts.

The astronauts had been on board the International Space Station since early March and various medical experiments were planned, among other things. It was the first spaceflight for Epps, Grebenkin and Dominick, and Barratt was visiting the space station for the third time.
